Remote quiet self catering holiday cottage in Weardale Durham Dales Co Durham AONB North Pennines Geo Park

Introduction

Our self catering cottage is a stone built former lead miners cottage surrounded by the moorlands of upper Weardale. The main access is at the front of the property with an additional emergency exit door to the side.We live next door to the cottage and would be pleased to provide advice and practical help to ensure you enjoy your visit to our magnificent Weardale. We have tried to provide as much relevant information as possible in this statement, if you have any queries please ring or email us.

Pre-Arrival

  • We have a website, www.beckleshele.co.uk, with a selection of photographs and are also listed in www.cottagesdirect.com.
  • Bookings / enquiries can be made via email / telephone / on line using Paypal
  • The nearest bus stop is 3 miles away in the village of Cowshill
  • The nearest major railway station, Durham City, is 30 miles away, there are accessible taxis at the station

Arrival and car parking facilities

  • The cottage is in a remote location and is accessed by a private farm track which is 350 metres long and an uneven gravel surface
  • Two large farm gates provide access to the concrete parking area for 2 cars which is on a slight incline
  • The parking area leads to a level but uneven natural stone patio leading to the front door

Main entrance

  • The front door has a 3cm high weather cill but no step
  • The door is 80cm wide, opens to the right and has the keyhole and door handle at 110cm high
  • It opens into the kitchen / diner which has stairs leading to the upstairs lounge and a step down to a lobby leading to the bedrooms and bathroom

Kitchen /Dining room

  • Is accessed directly from the front door
  • Worktop height is 90cm with inset sink and a clothes washing machine and a fridge with small freezer set underneath
  • Cooker is electric free standing with hobs at 90cm, a side opening door to the lower oven and drop down grill door at 60cm high
  • Microwave oven is on a shelf at 1.4 metres high
  • Central heating is controled by a floor standing oil fueled combi boiler with dial controls at 75cm high
  • The open fire can burn coal or small logs and has a hearth inset by 4cm
  • The flooring is large quarry tiles
  • Good contrast between floor, cupboards and other surfaces
  • Evenly lit room with spotlights above worksurfaces and dining area
  • Dining table is moveable but set in a corner under the stairs, it has legs on each corner, is 62cm from floor to lowest point and 78cm high. It is 1.4 metres long and 0.8 metres wide
  • Seating consists of one long pew against the wall and 4 moveable chairs with no arms
  • Free space between furniture and work surfaces is 3.7metres by 3.3 metres

Lounge

  • Accessed by stairs from the kitchen / dining room
  • Stairs are 19cm high, 30cm deep, 80cm wide with short pile carpet
  • Clearance at the bottom of the stairs is 78cm and at the top 80cm
  • Lounge flooring is short pile carpet
  • Furniture is moveable with a 3.5 by 1.6 clear space
  • Two double size sofas, one converts into a double bed
  • Two easy chairs, both with arms
  • TV, DVD, Stereo and CD player all have remote controls

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

  • Are accessed from a lobby leading off the kitchen / dining room
  • Access to the lobby is restricted by furniture to a width of 78cm and there is A STEP DOWN of 23cm to a quarry tile floor with good colour contrast
  • All doors are 70cm wide with latch type door handles 110cm high

Double Bedroom

  • Bed is 63cm high and 130cm wide
  • Largest transfer space to the right of the bed is 80cm
  • Largest free space is 2.6 by 0.8 metres
  • Flooring is shortpile carpet
  • Door leads to Ensuite with shower, toilet and wash basin (shower enclosure is 760cm square with one outward opening door, toilet is 46cm high, basin is 83cm high inset in a vanity unit, flooring is quarry tiles)

Twin Bedroom

  • Beds are 66cm high and 90cm wide and positioned against the walls
  • Space between the beds is 80cm
  • Largest free space is 2.6 by 1.2 metres
  • Flooring is shortpile carpet

Bathroom

  • Bath height is 55cm
  • Wash basin height is 82cm and is of the pedestal type
  • Toilet seat height is 46cm with 49cm free space to the right of the toilet
  • Largest free space is 1.8 by 0.8 metres
  • Quarry tile floor with good colour contrast with walls and units

Outdoor Facilities

  • Variety of outside bench seating including a garden swing
  • Surface is a mixture of gravel and natural rough stone slabs with a 14cm high step
  • A stone built shed provides secure cycle storage and also houses a small chest freezer

Additional Information

  • Cottage is strictly non smoking
  • Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome
  • The emergency exit at the side of the property opens onto a gravel surface with a step of 14cm to a hard surface
